The Great Buffalo Hunt
Mixed Media on Textured Surface
The Great Buffalo Hunt is a representational abstract work created using a custom texture medium. Flowing turquoise wave patterns evoke the contours of hills and mountains above and the movement of streams and waterways below.
At the center, imagery inspired by Native American cave drawings depicts a dynamic buffalo hunt, accompanied by symbolic motifs, a cluster of teepees, and figures in dance. Along the lower portion, two canoes carry Indigenous hunters through the stylized waves. On the left, riders on horseback charge toward the buffalo, while on the right, additional riders and two runners close in on their quarry. Overlooking the scene from above, the tribal chief observes the unfolding action. Near the lower center, a dancing flute player brings rhythm and vitality to the composition.
This piece invites viewers to experience a narrative of motion, community, and reverence for the natural world, blending abstraction with cultural storytelling.
