Gudiev’s works continue the legacy of the Russian avant-garde while marking the evolution of abstraction in Russian art from the late twentieth to the early twenty-first century.
RARARES Gallery is proud to present a new solo exhibition by the philosopher of form — Ruslan Gudiev. The Shifted Diagonal continues Gudiev’s long-standing exploration of form and movement, expanding on his exhibition A Fragment of the Big Diagonal (MMOMA, Russia, 2023). The project Shifted Diagonal traces the evolution of his visual language: from the expressive abstractions of the Perestroika-era 1980s, to the design- and architecture-influenced Abstract Composition series of the 2010s–20s. It culminates in the new graphic cycle The Ancient Stones (2025), conceived as both an artistic diary and a spiritual laboratory.
Together, these bodies of work define Gudiev’s ongoing search for, and continual redefinition of the diagonal as a generative force within his philosophy of form.
