Last month on my trip to Sri Lanka, I was out in the middle of nowhere hiking when I stumbled and fell on the rocky terrain. I put out my hands to catch myself my right hand landed on a golf ball sized rock. I picked up the rock and it was quite light for a rock. I looked closer, and being an amateur gemologist, I saw that it was a huge piece of Serendibite!
As I’m sure everyone knows, that’s like one of the rarest gems on the planet and I just stumbled on one! I held it up to the light to see the color and reflections, and wouldn’t you know it, but a Raven swooped down and grabbed it out of my hand! OMG! A bird just stole 2 million dollars (yes, $2,000,000.00) from my hand!
I watched the raven (I call him Rufus) - I watched Rufus fly away and he landed on a rock outcropping up a mountainside. I had to hike for a while and where it got real steep I was happy to see there was a staircase!
I climbed the stairs towards Rufus but before I got there, he flew even higher and landed. He was taunting me! “What a grim, ungainly, ghastly, gaunt and ominous bird of yore he is!” I thought.
We repeated this several times and finally he could go no higher. I climbed off the staircase and up some rocks to get to him. When I got close, the moon made a perfect silhouette of Rufus. I asked him to fly away and leave me my fortune. Then the bird said, “Nevermore.”
Well, that spooked the dickens out of me, I slid down the rocks, jumped on the staircase, down and down I went, then straight to the airport and back home.
And so here is “Moon Shadow Raven,” never flitting, still is sitting, still is sitting just above that rocky mountain just above that staircased tor. In this painting for evermore.
And with my 2 million dollar rock, too!
PS: I have a series of prints repainted by me with different moons. The ‘yellow moon’ version photo is also shown above. Future planned versions are, red moon, blue moon, orange moon, and pink moon.
