I bet you think that time travel is just science fiction. Until recently, so did I. It’s great for movies and books. But real life is just one day at a time. Or is it?
Last Halloween day, I attended a symphony concert featuring the music of Johann Sebastian Bach. “Ahhh, Bach!”
I sat 3rd row center next to a man in 18th century costume, long hair wig, and holding an accordion, and I said, ““Ahhh, Bach!” It seemed an obvious costume.
“Why yes, I don’t think I’ve had the pleasure.” He said, putting out his hand.
We shook hands, “I’m Randy. I’m an artist. What do you do?”
“Why, I’m a composer of music, of course!” He was really getting into character I guess, ‘cause he spoke a bit aggressively like I should have know that, as both of our attention went back to the orchestra . The organ spouted out the infamous “DA DA DAAAAAA, DA DA DIA DAAAAA,” the beginning of Bach’s Toccata und Fugue in D minor.
“Bach” immediately started getting all worked up. Mumbling that the organ isn’t tuned right, the tempo is all wrong, etc, etc. He finally said, “I must leave! Would you like to accompany me on an extreme adventure in time?”
I didn’t know in time for what, but he looked like a decent honest fellow so I said, “Sure, why not?”
We went out to the front of the theater and he pulled out his accordion. I didn’t like the way this was headed! He touched the keys and played the first little bit of that same toccata und fugue we had just heard and I found myself dizzy and disoriented. I closed my eyes, rubbed them, opened them and I was riding in a mine cart racing at breakneck speed on tracks suspended in space! “This is 15,000 years into the future, my boy!” He said.
OMG, it was beautiful, whatever it was. I just stared for a while, then shook my head, “Wait a minute Bach. Are you telling me you built a time machine out of an accordion?” He just smiled knowingly.
When he returned me to my time and space, I proceeded to my studio to record the sights I saw. Thus “A stochastic Realization of the Universe’s Continuity” was born.
