SYNOPSIS
File no. ic54-0015s is a multi-channel video installation exploring a tech-infused society becoming bankrupt of humanity. Central to the installation aesthetic are imagined characteristics of alien synthetic biology that have come to replace one’s natural skin for various reasons, including circumnavigating intergalactic border restrictions. Using ranging soundscapes from NASA to Moby, illuminating the intergalactic environment and connoting unspoken epic narratives, the audio both punctuates the visuals and responds to audience movements in the exhibition space. The work is intended to draw on the mechanistic ideal of synthetic biology contrasted with the strange messiness of sentient life.
