This is a panoramic view of al-Madina al-Munawwara, the second holiest city of Islam. Drawn by Mallet, this is the earliest view known of the city. The view shows a layout of the city with the hills beyond being approached by groups of pilgrims on camel and horseback. The grand masjid dominates the view, being the most significant structure within the sacred city.
