An earlier version of this view was made by D. R. Warry with an English title in the year 1882 (1299 AH) and was created from the first photograph ever taken of al-Masjid al-Haram which was a scene with a wider panoramic view by Muhammad Sadiq Bey taken in 1880 (1297 AH). This highly detailed panoramic illustration shows pilgrims in the masjid performing tawaf around the Ka'bah, in addition to other structures that stood in and around the Great Court such as the Hijr Isma'il, the minbar, the Bi'r Zamzam and two minarets. In the distance are the masjid’s columns and arches which enclose the compound used for tawaf. The cityscape behind has been rendered in detail including the hills bordering the city.
