My work explores the interplay of light and darkness, inspired by metaphysical and spiritual themes rooted in Islamic cosmology. The concept of "light upon light," serves as a central metaphor of this work. Each piece plays with juxtaposition of light and shadow and emerging from them are the motifs of “noor” (light).
Drawing symbolism from traditional patterns, my practice delves into the philosophical significance of "noor" (light) and its manifestations. The process of shading, layering through indigo dyeing, beautifully emerges as a demonstration for how divine light ornates the world.
In engaging with these metaphors, my work aims to challenge the viewer to reflect on the nature of divine presence, hidden within and beyond the visible world. The deep indigos and veiled translucencies that characterize my palette invite contemplation, embodying the veils that obscure clarity, yet invite seeking.
