Mashq –مشق is the classical Arabic practice of repetition. Calligraphers write words and letters over and over in pursuit of achieving excellence in their script, often filling every available space on the page.
Inspired by this method of learning and perfecting the craft, this series explores the intimate dialogue between movement and meaning, mirroring a whirling Dervish, as it becomes in essence, a meditation on ishq. Three works unfold from the root letters م meem, شsheen, and ق qaaf, their repetition echoing the quiet rhythm of longing.
Even the word mashq –مشق shares two letters with ishq –عشق, deepening this serendipitous echo. Each curve and line carries presence and surrender, where discipline becomes devotion and art becomes a vessel of love.
