The renowned feminist artist, Schapiro was in residence at Pyramid’s Riverdale location to participate in decisions for the papermaking substrate and printing of a suite of four prints housed within a hand formed, paper fan for the cover of the print portfolio.
Though Schapiro herself had a successful career as an abstract expressionist artist throughout the 1950s and 1960s, she was outraged by the lack of attention given to women's art by the male dominated abstract expressionist movement. This in turn drew her in to look at other female artists who had worked with fabrics. In this portfolio, Schapiro pays homage to three Russian avant-garde women constructivists: Sonia Delaunay, (1885–1979) the French-Ukranian abstract artist, and two Russian abstract painters Lyubov Popova (1889–1924) and Natalia Goncharova (1881–1962). She also included herself with the others, as a “femmagist” by adding “me” in the title of the portfolio.
