Shadow Fishing II is a linocut printed over a pulp painted black shadow shape on the custom-made paper. An experienced papermaker, Polinskie visited Pyramid several times (and in several locations) over our forty year history to work in our papermill and print studios. He often makes the very surface that he draws and paints on, perhaps this is why he is so very aware that any mark on that surface is as real as any other, no matter how “realistic” the image they comprise. Polinskie writes: “However precise the depiction … it remains nothing more than…a parody of actual existence fabricated out of mind, hand and spirit to satisfy the artist’s whim.” Polinskie enjoyed making the Shadow Fishing print with us in two variations: a black and white version (as seen in the exhibition), and a color pulp painted version.
