In my paintings, installations and drawings, the domestic interior and its adjacent
surroundings are metaphorical environments that I use as navigation tools to explore
the layers of selfhood and memory. The work often evolves into a source of
documentation for my later self, turning into breadcrumbs that I leave for the forgetful
days ahead—a return map. Sourcing my imagery from personal photographs,
architecture through the ages, gardens, textiles, and collected objects, I create layered
composite images that elicit a sense of deconstruction and reconstruction through their
facture, becoming palimpsests. I am reclaiming the pieces as much as I am deepening
my current experiences to anchor them more solidly, a DIY strategy to stave off memory
loss.
