Ghost Relics , in its monochromatic blacks and greys, is an unusual departure from Green’s customary colorful imagery. Yet, the surrealist type personal image translates a common theme from Green’s paintings and notebooks. A prolific painter and draftsmen, Green’s symbolic, poignant and powerful imagery has influenced and inspired the artists he mentored in his over 35 years of teaching at the Corcoran School of Art in Washington DC. Green led the city’s art away from the prevalent trend of painters in the Washington Color School, with his dedication to personal text iconography. Ghost Relics was printed by Nick Karvounis (a trained Tamarind Institute master printer) while he was in residence at Pyramid in Riverdale, Maryland.
