“Flowers and Pattern 2” is one of a series of four paintings that combine flowers and objects I
saw on a restaurant tabletop with an invented patterned background. I changed the color of
the flowers, which were originally yellow, to intensify the red/orange/peach impact of the
painting and to create ambiguity about the flowers’ relationship to the background.
