The specific colors, shapes, and characters in this design are an amalgamation of past and recent activities and experiences. Old sketch book entries, one-off smart phone screen shots, childhood toys, last week’s breakfast, all make appearances in these designs. The sort of free form design/art approach which mixes rough, gestural, scribbly lines with perfectly vectored, crisp, clean color and shape create a magic that for me proclaims variety, diversity, togetherness, and unity.
This artwork is one of a series of utility box wrap murals commissioned by Omaha by Design's Art+Infrastructure public art initiative, with the goal of beautifying Omaha’s “in-between spaces” to help neighborhoods to become more connected, residents to feel safer, and visitors to experience moments of joy. The wraps were completed in partnership with Metro to complement the new ORBT rapid bus transit lines by adding original art to stations along the East/West Dodge Street line.
