Father Flanagan Memorial Sculpture
- Stone
- Eugene (Jeno) Kormdendi
On November 28th, 1948 The Variety Club International presented Boys Town with a statue of Father Flanagan with boys of four different races. The statue represented Father Flanagan's belief that all boys, regardless of their race or religion, had the God-given right to be loved. Father Flanagan visited the artist Eugene Kormendi's studio to pose for the work. The statue is positioned in the center of the Boys Town village.
The four boys in this state represent four different races. Father Flanagan actually posed for this sculpture at Notre Dame University. He lived to see it created and upon his death, the artist donated it to Boys Town.
