This artwork is an homage to Omaha native Bob Gibson, who attended Omaha Tech High School before enrolling at Creighton University, where he was a star in both baseball and basketball. Following his college career, Gibson spent a year with the Harlem Globetrotters famed basketball team before electing to play professional baseball for the St. Louis Cardinals organization.
This artwork is one of a series of utility box wrap murals commissioned by Omaha by Design's Art+Infrastructure public art initiative, with the goal of beautifying Omaha’s “in-between spaces” to help neighborhoods to become more connected, residents to feel safer, and visitors to experience moments of joy. The wraps were completed in partnership with Metro to complement the new ORBT rapid bus transit lines by adding original art to stations along the East/West Dodge Street line.
