Artist: John Lajba (b. 1957)
John Lajba was raised in Omaha, Nebraska and attended the University of Nebraska at
Omaha and Creighton University, where he studied science and art. In 1983, he graduated summa cum laude from Bellevue University, receiving a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in sculpture.
As an internationally known bronze sculptor, Lajba is widely recognized for perceptively understanding the subject matter portrayed in his works. Whether the subject is a known personality, or the symbolic representation of a generic personality, he has developed an almost unchallenged ability to make real
the subject’s persona.
Among Lajba’s many works are several national projects, including sculptures of General Jimmy Doolittle for the Air Force Association National Headquarters, Katherine Lee Bates (writer of “ America
the Beautiful”) residing at Pioneers Museum in Colorado Springs, Dale Earnhardt for Daytona International Speedway, and the World War II Heartland Memorial in Omaha, Nebraska.
Lajba’s bustling studio in Omaha’s Old Market district is now known internationally
as a result of his exceptional and diverse contributions to the art world. He concluded a recent interview by saying, “I enjoy doing art about what we are capable of. I am fascinated by people who have inspired vision”.
“ Vision is the act of seeing things invisible”.
