John Henry works in all scales, from small pedestal or table top works to monumental sculptures that tower above the viewer or sprawl along the landscape. His concern is not with the actual size of the work but the appropriate scale for the work itself and it’s intended home. Some works are designed specifically for a particular site and the scale is an important part of the creative and engineering process.
Appropriate scale is always a consideration, but for the purposes of the website we have created categories; monumental, large, medium and small. These designations do not take in to account the site … in an enclosure a large scale work might take on monumental qualities or a large piece, situated against a vast horizon might begin to feel much smaller in the distance.
