BUFF (blue wall, pink pattern)
- Mixed Media, Ink, and Digital Print
- 72 x 128 x 0.25 in
- Ivette Spradlin, Lenore Thomas
The artwork combines photography and print collage to reimagine community spaces.
Artwork created by Ivette and Lenore is about conversations. Ivette has conversations with the environment, buildings, and painted out graffiti, called buffs, as she walks throughout the city taking photographs. Lenore has conversations with Ivette’s images using color, patterns, light, scale, and collage. The artists have conversations with one another while making the work. In particular for this work, the people who graffiti the walls and those who buff over it inadvertently participate in the
artistic collaboration and affect the look of a community's surroundings.
“BUFF highlights the way spaces bear traces of those who inhabit and pass through it. By commenting on it, we reimagine and insert ourselves into that space.”
