- Glass
Made as a collaborative project, small square pieces of stained glass, called tesserae, were provided to onlookers at PIT by artist Sarah Cohen and glued to a board. Inspired by Byzantine style mosaics, the colorful square pieces of glass are assembled to form an image of an airplane and sunset, inspiring the wonder of aviation and to captivate the beauty in our world. After the hands-on interaction between viewer and artist at the airport, Cohen took the work to her studio to finish it.
This image depicts the silhouette of an airplane flying towards the viewer. A yellow sun is seen in the background complimenting this form, with a pink, purple, and orange sunset behind it. The entire image is framed by the Cardinal directions North, South, East, and West, forming a compass visual. The piece is a mid-sized work and has a landscape orientation.
