Doppelgänger is a metal and glass artwork by Colin Piepgras who has worked closely with the Field of Robotics Center at Carnegie Mellon University. The piece is a record of an exo-skeleton created by the artist in an attempt to reconcile high-tech employment with a low-tech artist production.
This work comprises of a black metal frame with a large sheet of glass suspended inside. There is a black image printed onto the glass, illustrating a picture of artist Colin Piepgras connected to a robot “doppelgänger.” This robot moved with Piepgras through bars connecting the two. They are linked from various points on their heads, legs, and arms. Piepgras would put on performances with this work, walking down streets attached to his body double.
