The second Uzbekistan inspired embroidery: this time the motifs were organized in a symmetrical format. This series of embroideries is inspired by a trip to Uzbekistan where I became enamored of the richness of the designs of their Suzanis (hand embroidered textiles originating in Central Asia.) . This piece uses a variety of cotton threads and primarily the "bukhara couching" stitch which is worked by laying down a thread then going back over it with tiny stitches to hold it in place. Countless hours are spent stitching each piece which is created intuitively without a pattern by following the design as it emerges.
