Drawing is the foundation of my art practice and even when painting I view the brush is a drawing instrument. I have always been fascinated by the act of drawing and drawing materials and how magical it can be using such simple and direct means.
There are plenty of charcoal materials in the Blue Mountains to use for drawings from bushfires, and I wanted to use the contrast of representing water and reflections with burnt sticks as a way of showing the fragile and inextricable combination of beauty and tragedy of the mountains environment.
