This work is to be understood as an homage to Cy Twombly. I have often engaged with his art and love it deeply. I was especially moved by his Roses series at the Museum Brandhorst in Munich, which is part of the permanent exhibition. In my own work, I imagine that Twombly must also have loved tulips—if only for their wonderfully pure form. The piece takes up the lightness and playfulness so present in many of his works.
