This work is about the freedom to choose. What is freedom? Freedom never exists without boundaries, and we can decide to define our own boundaries and move freely within them. Where does my freedom end? Where I have to submit to the rules of others. But perhaps I don’t have to — perhaps there are ways to stay true to my own visions. The painting moves within this framework. It has evolved from a loosely applied, abstract piece into something much more complex and condensed, responding to the call of freedom through subtle, restrained colors and forms. Staying true to one’s own concept of freedom is not easy. It is an abstract work, but I myself see, in the lower right corner, a long, narrow, suggested figure and something like a boat. Perhaps setting off for new shores — again and again — is always part of a living notion of freedom.
