In 1925 Sybil Andrews joined the newly established Grosvenor School of Modern Art and became one of the distinct group of students associated with the tutor, Claude Flight (whom she had known since 1918). Flight pioneered the linocut technique and passed on to his pupils his interest in Cubism and Futurism. Grosvenor School works are notable for their depictions of speed and movement, modern city life, simplified forms and dynamic linear rhythms. Andrews later recalled, ‘We were the Avant-Garde in those days’.
This linocut is found in notable collections including the British Museum, the Glenbow, and Art Gallery of Greater Victoria.
