An etching of the silhouettes of three figures, seen from behind, with arms outstretched as they make towards a ghostly ship in the dark water, beyond the snow;
Produced during the 1960s and early 1970s, The Lost Party is a series of fifty etchings treating with the Newfoundland sealing disaster of 1914 in which a group of sealers were dropped off on the ice, but never retrieved due to confusion between the two ships' captains. More than two hundred men perished. Many of Blackwood's etchings capture the hallucinations of their final hours.
