In his 1981 series “Summer Passion Series,” Shadbolt revisited the styles developed in both his “Wild Grass Suite” (1978) and “Summer Suite” (1979). In this new decade, Shadbolt began incorporating collage elements. Speaking to this fertile, recurring, theme of summer fields and grasslands, Shadbolt recounted, “Once again out came another spade of grasses, highly intricate in the rhythms, varying in moods, picking up all manner of remembered experiences of roaming the fields.” (Jack Shadbolt, “Concerning Summer Suite,” Bau-Xi Gallery, December 1979).
