This patinated bronze sculpture of a dancing faun references the famous statue discovered in the atrium of the largest and most expensive residence in ancient Pompeii. Today it is the most visited of all the houses in the famous ruins of the ancient Roman city on Italy's western coast.
The bronze statue of a dancing faun is what gives the House of the Faun its nameāand it is located where it would have been seen by people peering in the main doorway of the House of the Faun.
The statue at the House of the Faun ruins is a copy; the original is in the Archaeological Museum of Naples.
