ARTIST STATEMENT
My art emerges from the unconscious. I doodle or squiggle on the blank paper and wait for images to speak to me. Sometimes the scene comes all at once and other times it appears piece by piece. I am excited by accident, surprise, and entering the unknown. As an art therapist, I view art making as a sacred act and I welcome all the figures who show up as parts of myself. Art has an incredible ability to harness psychological forces and assemble them into a story, much like dreams. I see my images as a succession of dreams, always leading me ever deeper into the recesses of my own being.
BIO
Christine studied with Richard Pousette-Dart at Sarah Lawrence College and received her Masters in Creative Arts Therapy from Pratt. She was introduced to Jung’s psychology as a teenager and went on to work at the library of the CG Jung Center in NYC. The profession of art therapy allowed her to bring her love of art, psychology, and symbolism together. At Rockland Psychiatric Center she founded and ran an open art studio for adults with long-term psychiatric illness. Many of the artists she worked with had a deep influence on her and she is grateful to her relationships with them. Art has always been a calling and throughout her life has allowed her to overcome life’s obstacles and find joy and peace.
