Richard Calver was born in Oxfordshire, England in 1946 and immigrated to Canada when he was nineteen.
In 1979, Calver began studying art with well-known print maker Sybil Andrews. The meeting proved to be a turning point in his life. Inspired by his mentor to embrace art as an integral part of his life, Richard became more serious about his art practice. In 1988 he learned the art of linocut printing and discovered his ideal medium in this painstaking process.
Over time, Richard developed superb technical skill and his own unique style in linocut printing.
