- Pattie Byron
Honor Your Sadness is part of the artist, Pattie Byron's, Fight, Flight, Freeze series. The piece is a response to her father's passing in January 2018. It is a visual exploration of the grief process. The artist finds that the process is like a wound that, at the point, the piece was created, about 3 months after his death, is still very much open - she feels as if she is frozen in the process & unable to escape it. Yet, she recognizes the need to allow the process to complete it's self so the "wound" can properly heal. No doubt she expects a scar. This piece is not only an exploration of her personal grief but grief in a universal sense. The paint was applied in abstract layers & then torn open, like a wound. Her process uses traditional brushes found in acrylic paintings & metal grinders used in metalworking. This new technique allows the artist to practice painting & metal working.
