The phrase "The Wine Dark Sea" I derived from Thomas Cahill's book, "Sailing the Wine-Dark Sea: Why the Greeks Matter." I have since read that the Greeks did not have the word "blue" and therefore had to call the Mediterranean Sea something other than blue. All of this is speculation because we don't know why Homer used this phrase. We do know that this phrase is romantic and appealing, rather like it's namesake, this 36x60" piece. Romance was what I was going for and, I think, what I achieved. Do you agree?
