In March 1993, my husband and I travelled to Siberia, Moscow, and St. Petersburg. We wanted to see Russia in the winter, the Russia of Dr. Zhivago. The day we spent in Red Square and visiting St. Basil’s church was a foggy, snowy day. Working from several photographs, I decided to play with the contrast of the exotic, often garish colors and textures of the church, yet veil the scene in its snowy quietude. Collaged, painted, and stitched cotton, covered with organza. Ready to hang with sleeve and slat. Hang away from direct sunlight or bright interior lights.
