Joyful Rebellion by Patricia Coughlin Image: now for something completely different. This was the first in the "Defy the darkness" series. It has been an uninspiring landscape but suddenly became a huge floral. It all started with the stripes that became the vase. In some ways, I don't really know where these images and marks come from, as it's not initially a conscious. rational decision. As the direction of the painting emerges I become more intentional - looking at what works and what doesn't. For example the white daisy like flowers were yellow on a previous rendition but it didn't sit right with me. The white is so much better. While there are some brighter colors, in many ways it is muted.
