My artwork emphasizes color and surface texture to create visually energetic, dynamic paintings. Though abstract, they always convey feeling and meaning.
MessageThis Giclee is printed from my original painting, the Japanese Bath, a three-part ‘triptych’ on Birch panels.
The subject is copied from the Japanese woodblock print “The Bath” made by Torii Kiyonaga, c.1780.
The original was created at Penland School of Crafts in Asheville, SC.
The piece has been digitally scanned at Archival Arts in high definition and digitally blended to create a single image without the sections of the original triptych.
Giclee's on canvas of "Japanese bath" exquisitely represent all of the subtle nuances of my original painting.
While most (Japanese) artists working with paper aim(ed) to achieve realistic senses of perspective, those specializing in woodblock prints were less concerned with depth and dimensionality. Instead, they favored strong shapes, graphic designs, and bold lines.
This original is painted on three solid birch panels which hang vertically as one work of art. The original piece measures 72"H x 24"W, with each of the three panels measuring 24" x 24". This image conflates the panels without separation.
The original is available, and it is available as a Giclee print on canvas at the full size: 72"H x 24"W.
- Subject Matter: A circa 1780 woodblock print by Torii Kiyonaga's , 'The Bath'.
