Breaches and Surfaces

Virtual Exhibition

To celebrate some old paintings from almost thirty years ago, I created a virtual exhibition on Artsteps. You can see it by accessing the link:

BREACHES and SURFACES

In this virtual exhibition you can see a series of paintings made between 1993 and 1995.

These are the "Brecce" series and the "Superfici" series. Being fond of typography, when I read the newspapers I was attracted by the black ink of the headlines. I fantasized that fonts could be windows to another world. Sitting with the newspaper in my hand, I imagined the scene of my gaze approaching the titles, getting closer and closer to the black ink, and I glimpsed the edge of the letter, that paper border that marked the passage, and I looked forward to the moment in which, as in flight, I would have crossed the border to throw myself into that boundless black. All of this resulted in this series of paintings called breccie: Black marks on a pictorial surface, with a relief effect on the edges. Later I concentrated on obtaining pictorial surfaces that interacted with geometric figures floating on the pictorial space, in dialogue with each other.

Continuing the research, the forms were connoted towards figurative elements, to then flow into the series of paintings from the "Poppies period".
