Towards the end of outdoor painting season, the sense that my opportunities for painting outside are dwindling heightens my desire to get out there for “one last hurrah”. Vibrant hues and an unusually warm day in October provided just what I needed to declare a last hurrah painting day. Previous to this I had purchased the lemons and gourds for a still life. I decided to combine the two elements (landscape and still life) as a sort of bridge between the way I paint in the summer and the way I paint in the winter. Saying goodbye to summer always feels sad to me. This painting helped me to not only accept the coming indoor season but to appreciate the gifts of quiet and shelter that it brings.
