I was raised in Washington state where it rains a lot. On rainy days, I would draw and paint with acrylics. This is where my interest in art started. My teachers would encourage me to enter my artwork in numerous art exhibits and I won many awards. I had a wonderful art teacher who took me to see a very special exhibit of Picasso’s art in Portland Oregon. I discovered through art your emotions, feelings, surroundings and social events can be expressed.
I moved to Oklahoma when I was 16 years old. It was a huge change for a teenager. I met my favorite art teacher here. She recognized that I had an interest in art and some talent. She gave me private tutor lessons. She encouraged me to enter more art exhibits which I won a few awards. However, after graduation, I discovered the adult life and moved to California. I married a wonderful husband, raised 4 children, had careers and many busy years went by. My world of art was placed on a shelf.
My husband and I moved to the Sierra Mountains in Nevada eight years ago when we retired. I entertained my past interests in art again by taking watercolor painting classes at the local community center. I took to art quickly. It was like riding a bike. I also tried to dabble with quilting like many others my age. I discovered that I didn’t care for sewing straight lines and boundaries. So quilting was frustrating for me. However, my friend who owned the quilt shop offered a class on free motion art. Art, that was music to my ears! Quickly I took to free motion art. I fell in love with being able to express myself with no boundaries or straight lines!
My husband and I discovered he could not tolerate the elevation of the Sierra Mountains. He said we are moving to Texas! After many prayers and a wonderful moving journey, we ended up right where we belong, Flint Texas. We have been here for almost 4 years. I continued my watercolor painting by taking classes from a well known local artist who inspires me to go above and beyond. What a blessing! I expanded my horizons by recently joining the Palette of Roses Art League, Tyler Texas.
I, also, found time to work again on my other favorite art, fabric thread art. This time was different. I was carrying a lot of baggage and burdens in my life. I decided to entirely relinquish all and turn it over to God. He took my burdens away from me. My life is so much more calm, peaceful and spiritually happy. I know He opened up my life to a freedom that I never knew. I started working on animals, birds, and wildlife through my fabric thread art. I like to place a printed fabric relating to the subject in the body. This is the inner soul of the subject within itself. I am looking forward to creating more of the East Texas wildlife, birds and animals.
