Wilma Allgood (American , b. 1945) x
If you had asked seven year-old Wilma what she wanted to be when she grew up, she would have proclaimed with great enthusiasm, “an Artist”. But life‘s paths twist, turn and sometimes loop backwards. Art becomes somewhat of a luxury, something to grasp in quiet moments when the kids were sleeping. The years passed and finding time to draw or paint became rare. Art supplies were moved from city to city; St. Louis, Texarkana, Hutchinson, Valdosta and finally Tyler, Texas. They remained unopened, unused and dusty, but never forgotten. Wilma’s art was hiding inside her, like a virus waiting for an opportunity to burst forth and burst forth it did. Seven-year-old Wilma and seventy seven-year-old Wilma merged into a title wave of creative energy, combining desire and obsession manifesting into a powerful body of work that continues to grow.
