The sky is somewhat ominous in this field of flowers. The backdrop for poppies is appropriate as they represent remembrance. Many nations recognize this flower in shades of red and orange to remind them of the past. Most notably is war. I felt that putting this down on canvas lifted my spirits on Memorial Day as I was contemplating my family who gave all. I am not one to paint war or political scenes so I paint my feelings and observations through the heaviness of the atmosphere with the bold color of the flower.
