Artist: Kamy Deljou
Kamy Deljou’s journey as an artist began in the storied city of Shiraz, Iran, where he was born in 1957. Surrounded by the rich artistic traditions of his homeland, Deljou’s early years were shaped by intensive training at the Metier Guild and the Dariush Academy of Shiraz. His passion for creativity led him to earn a Master of Fine Arts from Pahlavy University, where he mastered a range of techniques—from acrylics and pastels to printmaking and serigraphy.
In 1979, as Iran underwent seismic changes, Deljou made a life-altering decision to immigrate to the United States. Arriving in Atlanta, he transformed challenge into opportunity by establishing his own studio, Graphique Du Jour. There, Deljou’s inventive spirit flourished. He collaborated with leading artists and developed patented techniques that combined ink, acrylic, and oil, resulting in abstract works defined by bold forms, vibrant color, and rich texture. Over time, his creative practice expanded to include sculpture, three-dimensional art, and a return to his first love—photography, which he reimagined through embellished giclée prints.
Deljou’s story is not just one of personal achievement, but of community transformation. As co-founder of the Deljou Art Group, he built one of the Southeast’s largest art publishing and consulting houses, supporting more than 100 artists and offering services from art direction to framing. He became a mentor and educator, teaching at Georgia State and the Atlanta College of Art, and launched the nonprofit Undo Starving Artists (USA) to help emerging talent find their voice.
Kamy Deljou’s significance lies in his ability to blend Persian heritage with contemporary innovation, creating art that resonates across cultures and generations. His unique contribution is twofold: technically, through his pioneering mixed-media techniques and revitalized photographic processes; and socially, by empowering artists and proving that creative passion and professional success can go hand in hand. Through his art and leadership, Deljou has helped shape Atlanta’s creative landscape, leaving a legacy that is both visually striking and deeply communal.
