Biography

Louise T. Connor was a member of the Delaware Senate from 1964 to 1972, representing the Brandywine Hundred District. She served two four-year terms, and during her tenure she sponsored the Fair Housing Bill; introduced, and successfully lobbied for the ratification of the Equal Rights Amendment in Delaware; was the prime sponsor of the Therapeutic Abortion Bill; and sponsored a bill designed to assist the education of children with hearing disabilities.

After her terms in the senate were completed, Connor took on several education roles. She was an instructor of political science at Delaware Technical Community College and Stanton Community College, and taught practical politics at Princeton University and Rutgers University. She also served as Head of Recruitment and Curriculum Development at the University of Delaware’s Academy for Lifelong Learning. Under her leadership, the programs’ enrollment grew from 40 to 600.

Later in life, Connor conducted radio interviews with the prominent women in politics.
Connor was awarded the Delaware State Bar Association Liberty Bell Award in 1981 for ‘outstanding contributions by a lay person to the justice system;’ the Family Society of Northern Delaware’s J. Thompson Brown Award for ‘contributions to family stability’ in 1983, and the Humanitarian Award from the NAACP.
