Felicia A. Dorman believes that “people can realize their dreams and control their own destiny.” A single mother on welfare in her teens, Dorman pursued an education and worked as a volunteer teen advocate for a non-profit whose main goal was to promote drug-free living. Though she works full-time for the Department of Labor, Dorman spends much of her time volunteering.
Dorman has volunteered with the Delaware State Housing Authority Move-to-Work program and the Violent Offender Reentry Program. She teaches adult education classes at Sussex Tech. She also works with the Boys and Girls’ Club, coaching a basketball team, helping them fundraise, and runs a Teen Group, helping teens understand the importance of staying in school by sharing her own life experiences.
In 2005, Dorman was crowned ‘Mrs. Georgetown United States.’ Her platform focused on “helping youth from various socioeconomic backgrounds to dream big, to believe in themselves, and not to be afraid to pursue their goals.
