Artist: Woods Davy
"The focus of my work is the integration of man-made and natural forms... where the result transcends the materials, and a Zen-like quality emerges. I feel the mixture of opposites is a constant reality; therefore, their peaceful combination is a necessity." With these words, Woods Davy sets the stage for his precariously balanced sculptures, in which stones appear to float in gravity-defying weightlessness, denying their identity and taking on a cloud-like association or rising vertically in a kind of biomorphic geometry. In keeping with his belief that sculpture should be not only seen but experienced, Davy's public projects are not objects, "but places that function as pints of transition and gathering sites" that invite participation. His work distills the urban environment through the marriage of technological and natural form, creating a haven for contemplating the notion that opposing forces may be forged together to produce an unexpected harmony.
