Artist: Isaac Witkin (1936-2006)
Issac Witkin was educated at St. Martin's School of Art in London, and served as an assistant to Henry Moore early in his career. He won first prize at the 1965 Paris Biennale, served as a member of the Yale University Art Advisory Committee (1987-90) and is currently active as a board member at the International Sculpture Center, among many other honors and appointments garnered during a distinguished professional career. Well known for his bold formal constructivist steel pieces from the 1960s, Witkin expanded his sculptural vocabulary in the following decade by exploring
experimental foundry techniques and working in molten metal. He drew with liquid bronze directly on a bed of sand, which produced cooled and hardened shapes that served as points of departure for further innovation and inspired the form of larger, later works.
