Artist: David Zimmer
David Zimmer is a photographer and sculptor living and working in Denver, Colorado, where he has resided mainly for the last twenty years. He graduated from the University of Missouri in Columbia with a degree in environmental design, but became interested in art (and uninterested in environmental design) at the end of his senior year due to the influence of a teacher and printmaker Brook Cameron. He first showed work (1991-93) in Denver at the Pirate Gallery, Denver’s oldest co-op gallery space, in their annual outsider shows, later becoming an associate member. In 1994 he moved to Artyard, the Sculpture gallery founded by internationally known Denver sculptor Robert Mangold, where he continues to show and is represented presently.
One of the first major group shows he participated in was at the Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art in 1993 titled “The Denver Salon” curated by the Denver photographer Mark Sink. He has also shown work in New York, San Francisco, and Seattle. Most recently he has shown work at the Museum of Contemporary Art Denver and the Bemis Center in Omaha Nebraska.
His work is in many private collections throughout the country.
