Cedars, Fog
- Steel
- 64 x 192 x 18 in
- Stephen Chesley
Created from steel salvaged from the City Garage.
“It alludes to my upbringing in Virginia Beach,” says artist Stephen Chesley, describing the sculpture’s nautical elements: a triangular base that suggests the prow of a ship and an interior steel wind chime tuned to the pitch of a fog bell. “It takes a bit of wind to get it going. When we have a good wind, it will suggest the ocean with the fog bell tonality. Also, it’s located near the City Art building. The plantings that the city did are an integral part of it. It will sit between two trees, one of them a cypress, which is a water tree.”
All told, the piece took Chesley about three weeks to construct and weighs about a ton.
