The 22,000 square foot, 88- foot-high, 2-million gallon tank was constructed 32 years ago. and the design that depicts a golfer and palmetto tree silhouetted in front of a South Carolina sunset is painted by Eric Henn, a nationally known muralist who specializes in water tank murals. The tower depicts golfers with the backdrop of a Palmetto tree and a crescent moon. It was painted on the 3,800 tiles that the water tower is comprised of.
The word “Cayce” with a Gamecock in the “C” is another feature. The tower overlooks the practice range of the University of South Carolina’s Golf Team and the Par-Tee Driving Range. The color of the tower includes the various shades of a calm and soothing sunset. Public Works of HeART came together to work on this community crowded funded project, bringing a creative asset to the City of Cayce.

After winning EngenuitySC’s Ignite! Ideas Contest, Will Bryan developed Public Works of HeArt as a way to crowdsource the funding of a mural for the Cayce water tower. Following an extensive crowdsourcing campaign that raised money for the mural and Harvest Hope Food Bank, the mural was installed in September 2016.

The goal was to paint a golfer on 3,800 tiles that make up the water tower overlooking the practice range for the University of South Carolina’s Golf Team.

USC alumni Will Bryan just wanted to make the city of Cayce more appealing and with the support of a national muralist – Eric Henn — and community supporters, the Gamecock Water Tank Mural is the first community funded project under Bryan’s organization Public Works of Heart.
